浅草寺（せんそうじ[1]）は、東京都台東区浅草二丁目にある、東京都内最古の寺である。山号は金龍山。本尊は聖観音菩薩（しょうかんのんぼさつ）。元は天台宗に属していたが第二次世界大戦後独立し、聖観音宗の総本山となった。観音菩薩を本尊とすることから「浅草観音」あるいは「浅草の観音様」と通称され、広く親しまれている。東京都内では、唯一の坂東三十三箇所観音霊場の札所（13番）である。江戸三十三箇所観音霊場の札所（1番）でもある。全国有数の観光地であるため、正月の初詣では毎年多数の参拝客が訪れ、参拝客数は常に全国トップ10に収まっている[2]。
Sensō-ji (金龍山浅草寺 Kinryū-zan Sensō-ji) is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. It is Tokyo's oldest temple, and one of its most significant. Formerly associated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism, it became independent after World War II. Adjacent to the temple is a 5-store pagoda, Shinto shrine, the Asakusa Shrine,[1] as well as many shops with traditional goods in the Nakamise Dori[2]
The Sensoji Kannon temple is dedicated to Guanyin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, and is the most widely visited spiritual site in the world with over 30 million visitors annually.[3][4]
